Ulsan Crowned Champion at Red Bull Golden Letters TEKKEN 8 Tournament

In the Red Bull Golden Letters event, Lim “Ulsan” Soo-hoon emerged victorious, defeating Alexandre “AK” Laverez among eighteen top players. The greatest of TEKKEN 8 was showcased at the Grand Final, which was held at the Red Bull Gaming Sphere in London.

The Grand Finals featured an intense duel between Ulsan and AK, as they competed for the 2024 title. Ulsan went the entire tournament without losing, demonstrating remarkable skill. Over the course of the weekend, he defeated seven professional players, winning the Grand Finals 3-1 over AK.

For the first time, the Red Bull Golden Letters included four global qualifier rounds across North America, Europe, Japan, and the UK. The tournament kicked off on Saturday with a new 20-player group stage. This stage allowed players to compete for a spot in the top-12 elimination bracket scheduled for Sunday. Notable players included Red Bull’s Hoa “Anakin” Luu, Arslan “Arslan Ash” Siddique, and previous champion Richie “Ayorichie” Olusanya.

The competition intensified as the weekend progressed. Ulsan, along with fellow competitors like Kane “KaneAndTrench” Heartfield and Jae-hyun “CherryBerryMango” Kim, dominated the group stages, achieving 4-0 wins. UK open qualifier winner Akhil “Tetsu” Kakar fought his way through a three-way tie to secure his spot in the elimination rounds.

High Stakes and Dramatic Matches

Sunday featured the 12-player winner’s bracket, where Ulsan and CherryBerryMango continued their winning streaks. They defeated KaneAndTrench and AK, pushing them into the loser’s bracket. In a thrilling matchup, Ulsan secured his Grand Finals berth by besting CherryBerryMango 3-1. Meanwhile, AK fought back from the loser’s bracket, defeating Jodd and KaneAndTrench before facing CherryBerryMango. In a decisive 3-0 victory, AK secured his rematch with Ulsan.

The Grand Finals became a fierce contest between Ulsan and AK. Although AK put forth a valiant effort, Ulsan’s skills proved superior as he claimed the championship title with a final score of 3-1.

This year’s Red Bull Golden Letters introduced an innovative format for TEKKEN 8. Players were incentivized to take risks, with the potential to win entire sets by securing three “PERFECT” or “GREAT” scores, known as “Golden Letters.” This unique twist kept the stakes high and the gameplay exhilarating.
