Telegram Unveils In-App Browser for Decentralized Websites

Share

A new feature on Telegram’s platform is an in-app browser that works with decentralized websites. The goal of this upgrade, which was released on July 31, is to improve Telegram’s Web3 experience for its large user base.

The recently released browser easily works with Telegram’s current messaging platform. Now, users may easily transition between interacting with others and perusing decentralized websites, or “TON Sites.” The goal of this feature is to create a single, seamless experience for communication and information consumption.

“This makes Web3 immediately available to our almost one billion monthly users,” Telegram’s CEO Pavel Durov remarked in the announcement. The integration is a significant step towards expanding Telegram’s capabilities and providing users with access to decentralized web content.

TON Sites enable users to create and host their websites on The Open Network (TON). This innovation allows Telegram users to manage their web presence directly within the app, reflecting the platform’s commitment to advancing Web3 technologies.

Expansion of Telegram’s Mini App Ecosystem

In addition to the new browser, Telegram has rolled out its Mini App store, a feature it promised to deliver by the end of July. The Mini App store allows users to interact with various mini applications within the Telegram ecosystem. Telegram users can also now send “Stars,” a form of currency within the Mini App payment system, to friends.

Every month, more than 500 million users interact with the Mini App ecosystem, demonstrating its popularity. One notable example is the little app Hamster Kombat, which has amassed a significant following in just four months after its release, having surpassed 300 million gamers.

With these developments, Telegram keeps improving its platform by fusing cutting-edge technology with practical features. Telegram continues to improve its service offerings and incorporate new technologies into its ecosystem, as evidenced by the launch of the in-app browser and the growth of the Mini App store.
