The pioneers of the massively popular video games Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, Square Enix, have entered the realm of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) by holding the first NFT auction for their eagerly awaited game, Symbiogenesis. The business has revealed that, in an unexpected turn of events, winners of the auction would receive free NFTs.
On December 21, Symbiogenesis, an Ethereum and Polygon NFT game played in a browser, will launch. This is a big step forward for Square Enix as it enters the NFT market. Although the corporation has previously made vague allusions to a December launch, the precise date remained unknown until recently.
The first minting round of the auction began with the release of 500 in-game Ethereum NFT characters in a three-phase rollout. After ten character NFTs were only made available to Symbiogenesis stakeholders, top players who finished tasks in the game’s official Discord server were given access to an additional ninety NFTs through a priority mint. 400 character NFTs will be available for grabs in the grand finale for people on the allowlist from the Discord campaign from December 2–3.
Square Enix introduced a bonus system to encourage active involvement and add excitement to the auction process. A “special countdown illustration” NFT (available in four forms) will be given away to the winning bidder. Additionally, a “Member Card Red (Colored)” NFT will be awarded to bidders who have paid at least 0.05 ETH (about $100), giving them “additional points” in Symbiogenesis.
Although it is known that character NFTs will be issued on Ethereum, it is unclear what the bonus NFTs will include and if they will be issued on Ethereum or on the Ethereum scaling network Polygon.
Square Enix’s first foray into the realm of original NFT games is Symbiogenesis. Although Square Enix is relatively new to the NFT gaming market, it has been actively involved in the cryptocurrency field for a number of years, dabbling in investments, NFT initiatives, and partnerships with already-published NFT games such as The Sandbox. The gaming world is excited to see this creative chapter in Square Enix’s distinguished past unfold as the launch date draws near.
