Through its partnership with Line Next, a web3 initiative of South Korean social network Line, Sega has reaffirmed its commitment to the web3 gaming market. Sega Singapore, the company’s web3 business overseer, has demonstrated its commitment to the space by becoming an important node validator and governance member on Line Next’s Finschia blockchain.
Sega is prepared to introduce one or more of its renowned gaming IPs on the freshly redesigned DOSI platform following an IP deal in July 2023. The cooperation is to assist DOSI and its partner games in addition to growing the Finschia ecosystem. It furthermore aims to use Sega’s well-known and cherished IPs to further the wider popularization of web 3.
This strategic move by Sega follows speculations in mid-2023 about the company potentially withdrawing from the web3 gaming sector. Despite Sega Co-COO Shuji Utsumi’s previous questioning of the fun factor in web3 games, the company has clarified its commitment to staying in the web3 space and integrating blockchain into current and future game developments.
Line Next, as the US-based blockchain arm of Line, recently secured a substantial $140 million strategic investment from Crescendo Equity Partners. This funding aims to accelerate the growth of Line Next’s DOSI blockchain social and gaming platform. Throughout 2023, Line Next has been developing a beta browser-based version of DOSI, with the official launch of its mobile app scheduled for January 2024.
This calculated risk is essential to making sure that DOSI’s mobile app launches successfully. Line Next intends to establish connections with other services, such as DOSI Citizen, and Line’s current NFT marketplace in Japan. The strategy also calls for creating new games that include the intellectual property of Brown & Friends and an AI-powered social app. Crescendo Equity Partners, a Finschia blockchain governance member, reaffirms Line Next’s dedication to innovation.
Sega and Line Next’s partnership is in line with the larger industry trend of well-known game firms entering the web3 arena to investigate the possibilities of blockchain technology and interact with an ever-expanding user base. The web3 environment is still changing as Finschia and Klaytn suggest a combined merger, and Sega is well-positioned to be a major participant in this revolutionary process.
