Saga Blockchain Launches ‘Play-to-Airdrop’ Tournaments

In a move that’s energizing the crypto gaming community, Saga Blockchain has launched a ‘play-to-airdrop’ campaign. This initiative offers players the opportunity to earn SAGA tokens by excelling in various game tournaments. The campaign is strategically timed to coincide with the broader market’s recovery, drawing players into Saga’s rapidly evolving ecosystem.

At the forefront of this innovative approach is Rebecca Liao, CEO and co-founder of Saga, who explained their strategy: “Rather than offering grants to game developers, we’re focusing on sponsoring user acquisition for games through part of our airdrop.” This method aims to incentivize players to participate in the ecosystem, rewarding them with SAGA tokens.

Saga’s play-to-airdrop initiative commenced this month, featuring an array of gaming competitions, including a festive-themed advent calendar event. The campaign is set to extend into January and February, leading up to the much-anticipated launch of the Saga mainnet in early spring.

This campaign showcases a diverse selection of games. Titles like Generative Dungeon, Tally Up, Rogue Nation, and Vennity are part of this initiative. Another notable inclusion is the metaverse game Another World, compatible with Bored Ape Yacht Club and Azuki NFT avatars. Top performers in these games will be eligible for the SAGA airdrop, although eligibility is subject to location constraints.

Following a successful $5 million seed extension funding and the announcement of its community airdrop plans last November, Saga is keen on expanding its user base. The protocol is uniquely designed as a ‘chain to launch chains’, allowing developers to create dedicated chains, or ‘chainlets’, to power games and other applications. This design is likened to using multiple cloud instances in app development, offering significant flexibility and utility.

Approximately 80% of developers in Saga’s Innovators Program are engaged in game development, largely attracted by Saga’s no-gas approach for users. This means players aren’t required to pay fees for each on-chain action, a significant draw for both gamers and developers. In this model, developers use SAGA tokens to compensate validators who support their chainlets. They also retain the freedom to decide on monetization strategies for their games.

Looking ahead, Saga is planning to broaden its play-to-airdrop campaign to include games on partner chains like Avalanche and Polygon. This expansion will further enhance Saga’s presence in the blockchain gaming world.
