The 16th World Esports Championship (WEC), held from November 11 to 19, showcased the unparalleled excitement of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB). With both Open and Women’s categories delivering intense competition, this year’s tournament set new benchmarks for viewership and engagement, solidifying MLBB’s status as a flagship title of IESF competitions.
The MLBB Open Tournament captivated fans with its thrilling matches. Malaysia claimed the championship in a remarkable run, toppling heavyweights Indonesia (2022 champions) in the semifinals and besting the Philippines (2023 champions) in the final. This victory crowned Malaysia as the third consecutive new champion in WEC history.

The event reached a peak viewership of 613,000, making it one of the most-watched MLBB tournaments in WEC’s history.
The first-ever MLBB Women’s Tournament added a historic dimension to the championship. Teams showcased immense skill and determination, with Indonesia living up to its pre-tournament favorite status to clinch the gold.

With a peak viewership of 258,000, the Women’s tournament exceeded expectations, highlighting the rising interest in women’s esports. This milestone debut proved the Women’s category deserves equal recognition on the global stage.
The 2023 WEC boasted the largest MLBB prize pool in its history, totaling $280,000. The MLBB Open Tournament accounted for $160,000, while the Women’s category featured $120,000 in rewards.
This success stems from the collaboration between IESF and MOONTON Games. Igor Nedeski, IESF’s Esports Manager, emphasized: “The incredible performances and viewership this year reaffirm our goal to grow MLBB’s presence on the international Esports stage.”
