LINE to Launch Mini-Apps with Kaia Blockchain Integration

Share

In partnership with the Kaia DLT Foundation, an organization based in the United Arab Emirates that supports the Kaia blockchain, the massive Japanese messaging company LINE is getting ready to launch micro-decentralized applications, or mini dApps, on its messaging network. Through direct Web3 technology integration into the LINE app, users will be able to engage in new interactive experiences thanks to this project.

The Kaia Wave Initiative

The mini dApps will debut as part of the Kaia Wave initiative, which was unveiled on August 29 by the Kaia DLT Foundation. This initiative is designed to support Web3 developers by providing resources and incentives to create innovative applications for LINE’s extensive user base. The Kaia DLT Foundation emerged as an independent entity following the merger of LINE’s Finschia blockchain with South Korean tech giant Kakao’s Klaytn blockchain. The foundation now oversees the governance and management of the Kaia blockchain, a layer-1 EVM-based network.

The Kaia Wave initiative coincides with the mainnet launch of the Kaia chain, which is integrated with both Kakao’s Kakaotalk and LINE’s messaging platforms. These platforms boast a combined user base of over 250 million people, creating a significant opportunity for developers. The Kaia DLT Foundation aims to attract developers to build mini dApps specifically for LINE’s users in regions such as Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia. Developers will utilize Kaia’s NEXT WEB software development kit to bring these applications to life within the LINE Messenger.

In addition to its work with the Kaia DLT Foundation, LINE is also partnering with LINE NEXT, its Web3 division, as part of a broader effort to enhance the Web3 experience for both developers and users. According to Young-su Ko, CEO of LINE NEXT, “Through the Kaia Wave project, LINE NEXT will focus on delivering a more efficient Web3 platform for builders and improving accessibility and convenience for users.”

This initiative positions LINE to tap into the growing trend of incorporating blockchain applications into messaging platforms, a trend that gained traction with Telegram’s introduction of ‘Telegram Mini Apps’ in 2023 and Mini App Bar earlier this year. By allowing developers to integrate their mini dApps with The Open Network blockchain, Telegram has paved the way for similar efforts by competitors like LINE. With this new venture, LINE aims to bring Web3 technology to its vast user base, further expanding the reach of blockchain-powered applications.
