Line Prepares for Web3 Gaming Shift with Mini-Game Platform Launch

Share

The blockchain division of Line, Line Next, and Web3 developers Kaia are preparing to release a mini-game platform that will be integrated into the Line messaging app itself. Like WeChat and Telegram, this platform lets players access games while taking use of integrated features like asset ownership, wallet setup, and smooth transactions.

With the help of the Kaia blockchain, which integrates the Finschia and Klaytn networks, the platform seeks to remove technical barriers and streamline the implementation of web3. It is slated for release in January 2025 and aims to reach the 196 million monthly active users of Line Messenger in Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Japan.

Driving Web3 Adoption Across Asia

Kaia has already attracted interest from more than 700 global developers eager to launch applications on Line Messenger. These developers include creators of successful games currently thriving on Telegram and the TON ecosystem. The platform is expected to transform Line Messenger into a hub for innovative web3 experiences while leveraging its existing reach.

To build momentum ahead of the full launch, Kaia and Line Next will roll out their Dapp Portal SDK in early December 2024. This SDK will provide developers with tools to create mini-applications, accelerating the transition of Line Messenger into a web3-enabled platform.

Line’s mini-game platform emphasizes accessibility, seamlessly integrating blockchain technology without overwhelming users with complexity. By embedding games within the familiar Line Messenger app, the platform lowers barriers for traditional users to explore web3 functionalities.

This move aligns with a broader trend of social and messaging platforms embracing blockchain technology to expand their ecosystems. Kaia and Line Next aim to mirror the success of Telegram’s blockchain-powered games while capitalizing on Line’s established dominance in Asian markets.

With its January 2025 launch, the platform is poised to become a game-changer for the web3 gaming industry, offering developers and players a user-friendly gateway to blockchain-based entertainment.
