Through the acquisition of Tango Gameworks and its Hi-Fi RUSH intellectual property from Microsoft Gaming, KRAFTON, the massive South Korean video game company, has made a big entry into the Japanese gaming market. With this transaction, KRAFTON makes its first significant entry into the competitive gaming market in Japan.
Tango Gameworks, established in 2010, became a part of Microsoft Gaming after Microsoft purchased ZeniMax Media in 2021. But ZeniMax Media declared in May 2024 that Tango Gameworks would close. As a result, KRAFTON intervened to acquire the Hi-Fi RUSH franchise in addition to the development studio.
KRAFTON plans to work closely with Microsoft Gaming to facilitate a seamless transition for Tango Gameworks. This collaboration aims to ensure that the studio’s development team can continue their work on Hi-Fi RUSH and explore new projects. KRAFTON is committed to supporting Tango Gameworks in maintaining its innovative edge and delivering new and engaging experiences to fans.
Despite the changes, Tango Gameworks’ current game library will remain unaffected. Titles such as Hi-Fi RUSH, The Evil Within, The Evil Within 2, and Ghostwire: Tokyo will continue to be available on all platforms where they are currently offered. This continuity is essential for preserving the studio’s legacy and ensuring that fans can still enjoy their beloved games.
KRAFTON’s acquisition of Tango Gameworks reflects its strategic effort to expand its influence and operations in the Japanese gaming market. By bringing Tango Gameworks under its wing, KRAFTON aims to bolster its portfolio with innovative projects and maintain a strong presence in the global gaming industry.
