India’s talented gamers now have a new platform to showcase their skills as eFootball, Konami’s popular football simulation game, has been added to the official titles featured in the FIFAe World Cup. This exciting development follows a recent collaboration between FIFA and Konami, making eFootball one of the key titles alongside Rocket League and Football Manager. For the first time, India is among the 18 countries invited to participate in this global tournament, joining the ranks of football powerhouses like Brazil, Argentina, France, and England.
In a country where mobile gaming is on the rise, India’s inclusion in the FIFAe World Cup marks a significant milestone. According to the India Games Market Report 2023 by Niko Partners, 96.8% of the country’s gamers play on smartphones or tablets. With projections showing the number of gamers to reach 641.2 million by 2027, India is at the forefront of the mobile gaming boom.
eFootball, which is available as a free-to-play game, has made it easier for aspiring Indian gamers to access and train for international competitions. With both mobile and console platforms included in the FIFAe World Cup, Indian players can turn their passion into potential global success.
Akshat Rathee, Co-founder and Managing Director of NODWIN Gaming, expressed his enthusiasm about this development. He said, “This collaboration between FIFA and Konami to bring eFootball into the FIFAe World Cup is a significant moment for Indian esports. India’s inclusion in this global event is a source of immense national pride.”
Additionally, eFootball will be part of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s WAVES Esports Championship 2025 (WESC), further solidifying the game’s presence in India. Animesh Agarwal, aka 8Bit Thug, Co-Founder of S8UL, commented, “This collaboration between KONAMI and FIFA opens up valuable avenues for both mobile and console gamers across the country to compete on the international stage.”
With eFootball gaining recognition in major tournaments, India’s gamers are now set to shine globally.
