Teams from all over the world faced off in Istanbul, Turkey, for the Red Bull Campus Clutch World Final—the ultimate student VALORANT competition—in an exciting exhibition of skill and strategy. Teams were competing for a piece of the €20,000 prize money as well as the coveted title of Red Bull Campus Clutch 2023 Champions, so the stakes were high. Teams fought fiercely in the Volkswagen Arena to earn a berth in the Round of 16.
Experienced teams like VAC KIMCHI from South Korea and NARODNI GARDA from the Czech Republic proved their mettle by winning their groups 2-1 and moving on to the next round. But with a commanding 3-0 thumping, Portugal’s NemAPAU took center stage, highlighting the skills of Miguel ‘Bati’ Batista, a regular competitor in the Red Bull Campus Clutch World Final. Peru also made it to the Round of 16 with a tenacious 2-1 victory.
More shocks awaited in the afternoon session as Team Garuda from Indonesia, the competition’s newcomers, shocked everyone with a 4-0 performance. Their most noteworthy accomplishment was a close 18-16 triumph against Team USA’s Northwood, the reigning champions. The reigning champions were up against fierce opposition from Team France and ultimately lost out on the second qualifying slot in the group. Los Vigentes of Chile and RETIREDGAMERS of Sweden both dominated their groups, finishing first with 4-0 and 3-1 records, respectively.
Miguel “Bati” Batista reminisced about the day, saying, “We just took it round by round and made the comeback [against Taiwan].” We were playing their comp for the first time, so getting used to it was more difficult. Giancarlo “giaNco” Arróspide, the Peru coach, expressed his joy at attending the event for the first time and praised the beautiful city and well organized tournament.
These eight formidable teams will progress to the Round of 16, where they will face another set of challengers. The battle for supremacy will intensify during the knockout rounds, leading to the Grand Final on Friday. The tournament can be watched live on the Red Bull Gaming Twitch and YouTube channels.
A pre-Grand Final showmatch between well-known players is scheduled on November 24. It should be an exciting interlude. The victorious team will take home the coveted €20,000 award as well as the title of best student VALORANT team worldwide.
