The well-known blockchain-based trading card game (TCG) Splinterlands is about to launch a thrilling new gameplay mode called Survival. After the Modern and Wild formats, this is the third main mode added to the game. Players can expect a novel and demanding experience in Survival, which will add new strategic complexity to the game’s world.
The primary feature of Survival mode is that it will not require any energy to enter, offering players the freedom to battle without limits. However, there’s a twist: every time a card dies in a match, it becomes temporarily unavailable for use in future battles. The cooldown period for each card will depend on its rarity, level, and foil status, adding a layer of strategy that will force players to think carefully about their card choices.
This unique mechanic will challenge players to manage their resources more effectively. Instead of merely focusing on assembling the strongest team, players will need to prioritize card management, considering factors like rarity and availability. As a result, it is expected that the mode will encourage players to collect multiple copies of key cards to remain competitive.
In line with other game modes like Modern and Wild, Survival mode will feature an SPS (Splinterlands Shards) reward pool. Players will earn SPS for each victory based on their reward shares, which are determined by their performance in the battle relative to the total rewards of all players in the mode over the past 15 days. This reward system adds an incentive for players to keep engaging in Survival mode while striving for higher rankings.
At the conclusion of every ranked season, the top-rated players will also get leaderboard awards in recognition of their outstanding Survival mode performance.
Splinterlands intends to include Survival mode in the upcoming months, while the precise release date has not yet been set. In order to improve and refine the mode based on player input, the development team is keen to hear from the community.
