Cyberwave, an indie game developer, is set to launch A Game About Digging A Hole in 2025. The game embraces simplicity, offering players a lighthearted and straightforward premise: dig a hole, uncover treasures, and upgrade your tools to dig even deeper.
In A Game About Digging A Hole, players start in their backyard, digging up ores and treasures to sell for profit. As you earn money, you can purchase better tools to enhance your digging efficiency, repeating the process until you’ve amassed a fortune. According to the trailer, the focus remains squarely on the core activity—digging.
Cyberwave describes the game as offering a relaxing, rules-free experience. “Dig deep, sell what you find, update your equipment to continue your journey further and further. With every spadeful you dig, you get closer to the truth. There’s no rush, no rules – just you and the adventure underground,” says the developer.
Surprisingly, Cyberwave created the game in just two weeks using Unreal Engine 5. The minimalist yet engaging gameplay takes inspiration from the classic Flash game Motherload. Many gamers may recall Motherload fondly, especially those who spent hours playing it in school computer labs. The nostalgic vibes are sure to appeal to fans of retro digging games.
Cyberwave is also working on another project, Solarpunk, a more complex survival crafting game slated for release in 2025. Despite the brief development time for A Game About Digging A Hole, the game promises to deliver fun and simplicity for players of all ages.
Available on Steam in 2025, A Game About Digging A Hole will reportedly be priced modestly, as noted on its Steam page: “Costs as much as a coffee, but is fun for longer!”
