The eFIBA India Qualifiers have been introduced by the Basketball Federation of India (BFI), with Jet Skyesports serving as the official esports partner. The goal of this effort is to choose a 12-person squad to play for India in the Asia/Oceania Regional Finals of the eFIBA event.
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the world authority on basketball, oversees eFIBA, an esports championship based on NBA 2K24. More than sixty national federations will compete in this competition. The winning squad from the Regional Finals will compete for a portion of the €50,000 prize pool in the World Finals in December.
Jet Skyesports will oversee the qualification process, including grassroots-level events, to identify India’s top NBA 2K24 players. This collaboration aligns with Jet Skyesports’ mission to promote Indian players on the international stage. Shiva Nandy, Founder and CEO of Jet Skyesports, expressed excitement about the partnership: “We are thrilled to partner with the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) as the esports partner for the India Qualifiers in FIBA’s official eFIBA competition. Skyesports was founded with a vision to help aspiring players represent the country internationally, and partnerships like these allow us to stay true to that vision for the gaming community of India.”
Nandy also highlighted the growing recognition of esports, stating, “With the recent announcement of the Olympic Esports Games by the IOC, the world is increasingly recognizing esports as a legitimate competition on par with traditional sports, and we are proud to contribute to this global movement.”
Registrations for the eFIBA India Qualifiers are open until September 5, 2024. Players will compete through several stages: Prelim Rounds from September 6 to 8, Playoffs on September 9, and the Grand Finals on September 10. These stages will determine the best NBA 2K24 players in India.
This partnership marks a significant step for esports in India, blending traditional sports with the digital realm to offer new opportunities for gamers and basketball enthusiasts alike.
