Venture capital powerhouse a16z has announced the launch of its highly anticipated third iteration of the Speedrun accelerator program, earmarking a substantial $75 million fund for transformative gaming investments.
Nestled in the vibrant tech hub of Los Angeles, the latest installment, dubbed SR003, promises a dynamic 12-week journey designed to empower tech and gaming visionaries with essential tools and resources. Culminating in a high-profile Demo Day during SF Tech Week, participants will have the opportunity to showcase their cutting-edge projects to a discerning audience of potential investors.
Josh Lu, an investing partner at a16z Games, hailed the program’s potential, emphasizing its role in bridging the realms of technology and gaming: “Speedrun brings together tech and games, two worlds that sit on the frontline of massive transformations and attract some of the world’s most innovative entrepreneurs.” He further emphasized, “Our Speedrun program not only provides capital support but also a team of operators and partners who have worked across the games industry and can equip them with the knowledge that helps them go from zero to launch.”
In a bid to elevate the program’s impact, a16z has raised the funding bar, offering up to $750,000 in financial support to each selected startup. While the selection process remains fiercely competitive, with a mere 1% acceptance rate, the potential rewards are immense. Notably, 80% of companies from the inaugural cohort secured additional funding post-graduation, underscoring the program’s efficacy in catalyzing entrepreneurial success.
Applications for SR003 are now open until May 19th, with the program slated to kick off on July 29th. This presents a golden opportunity for ambitious startups to carve a niche in the burgeoning realm of blockchain gaming. By participating in a16z’s esteemed Speedrun accelerator, entrepreneurs can breathe life into their groundbreaking ideas, propelling the gaming landscape into uncharted territories of innovation and creativity.
