Slovakia Plans To Block Illegal Gaming Websites

In a move to a crackdown, the unauthorized provision of iGaming services in the country Slovakia’s Financial Administration has started to compile a list of illegal gambling websites and plans to release the list to the public on July 17.

An amended gambling regulatory regime that allowed interested online sports betting operators to apply for a licence to be able to service local bettors was introduced by Slovakia last year. The only ones that remained under the scope of state monopoly were online casino and poker.

A plan on how to monitor the industry for violations and how violations would be sanctioned is also being planned by the Financial Administration. A fine of up to €500,000 and innumerable other sanctions may be levied on the unlicensed operators that continue providing their services to Slovak customers, according to the new regulatory scheme.

The list of the websites that violate regulations will be the first revealed on July 17 and the website owners will be warned to stop targeting Slovak customers. On failing to do so within the restricted time period, they will remain blacklisted and the Financial Administration would move court seeking to block these websites. Payment transactions related to gambling will also be blocked.
