According to a study on gambling preferences, bettors move from betting on the MLB to the football or NFL season as soon as it starts in September. The report published in the Journal of Sports Economics also states the change has little to do with better payouts. Gamblers do it because they perceive more fun or entertainment out of football than baseball. Actually the report even says gamblers are not expecting to win any money in the first few games. “We suggest that due to the popularity of the NFL and college football, bettors wager on football games instead of baseball games because they prefer to watch football games” says the study.
