Proposal to ban odds advertising on TV

Gambling odds on Australian TV during sports events would be banned under the new set of rules being proposed by Free TV Australia, the group which represents all of Australia’s commercial free-to-air TV licenses. The group is demanding for commentators and guests not to be allowed to promote gambling odds 30 minutes prior, after and during the sports events. “The proposed amendments to the Code reflect an agreement reached between the government and commercial radio, commercial television and subscription broadcasters to reduce and control the promotion of live odds during the broadcast of sporting events,” Free TV Australia said in a statement.
