Daily fantasy sports returned to New York when Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo signed into law a bill that said: Daily fantasy sports really is a game of skill. This is a big win for DraftKings and FanDuel, the two leading companies in the DFS business.
Governor Cuomo, who signed off on the bill right in time before the NFL season opens in September, stated: “Daily fantasy sports have proven to be popular in New York but until now have operated with no supervision and no protections for players. This legislation strikes the right balance that allows this activity to continue with oversight from state regulators, new consumer protections and more funding for education.”
Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow added: “Fantasy sports are more than online games – they have the potential to generate millions of dollars in revenu for New York State.”
Fantasy players will be able to participate in the regulated games for the first time since March. DraftKings and FanDuel will return to one of the industry’s largest and most succesful markets.
