Mayweather fight registering unusual wagers at MGM

The WBC Super Middleweight Title boxing match between boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Mexican contender Saul “Canelo” Alvarez at the MGM Grand Arena has already seen a lot of gambling action but there seems to be an unusual activity developing as punters have been betting heavily on the favorite as opposed of the usual pattern where they wait until the lowest odds are offered barely hours before the fight begins.

When asked for an explanation, MGM Resorts vice president Jay Rood said: “I suppose it’s because of the price being so cheap. The public does normally like the big payouts with the underdog and we’re still going to see that action, but we haven’t seen Mayweather be this low of a favorite in some time, so I think that has a lot to do what we’ve seen so far.”

Sportsbooks had initially started offering wagers at -265 shortly after the announcement. On Monday, the line moved down to -240 which for some reason attracted a large number and volume of bets before shooting back up to -260.
