Despite online betting taking over a large part of the land-based operations for several of the biggest bookmakers in the world, there is no doubt about the fact that the betting shops are a crucial part of any large bookmakers bottom line. Many punters goes there on a daily basis to place their bets as well as play on the fixed odds terminals, which is revenue that they cannot lose.
So to try and gain a new edge in the land-based betting shop market, Ladbrokes have decided that they want to invest in making their betting shop state-of-the-art. Ladbrokes has partnered up with design agency FITCH, who will create a new environment in some of the London betting shops with the possibility to extend it to the rest of the UK.
The shops will now feature brand new electronic "posters" which will show live twitter feeds, new events and odds as well as special promotions for bettors. Furthermore the shops will provide live TV of events as well as provide free WIFI for players coming into the stores, so they can spend more time in the shop.
The overall goal is to create a feeling of being at home betting, but in more thrilling and exciting surroundings. Doing so will hopefully increase the revenues in the betting shops as well as get more customers to change from competitors to Ladbrokes, which is a crucial part of the business.
“The new shop aims to differentiate Ladbrokes from the normal traditional format of the betting shop. Retail is evolving and we are keen that our customer experience evolves with it. The Strand shop is a great way to test out new ideas and see how the customer reacts.” Group Property and Procurement Manager at Ladbrokes, Chris Robson said in a press release.
