Irishman wins €2,000 windfall from €5 bet

Brendan Swan, 56, from Dublin, has won a €2,000 windfall from €5 bet, making an incredible prediction of Hearts beating Celtic by 4-0 last week.

The Dublin man said that he knew that the Glasgow siders couldn’t keep winning. Celtic was on a 69-game undefeated streak. The Irishman said that he sensed that Celtic will go down and saw no sense in backing them to lose 1-0, and thus, went all out.

When the match was underway, Swan said he watched in bits and when Hearts were leading at 2-0, he became optimitic of the 4-0 drubbing of Celtic. He added that until the penalty that made the scoreline 4-0 late on, he was sitting on the edge of the seat in the final minutes of play.

The North Dubliner bets €20 a week, and this is not the first time that he has won a big sum. He said sticks to the outrageous betting style saying that placing a bet on the basis of logic would not have won him the windfall. Just a few weeks ago, he predicted Liverpool to beat Spartak Moscow 7-0. In last month alone, he has won about €5,500 from various bets.

He believes that there is no fun in €100 or €200 punts, so he does about four €5 bets a week, just a sum he can afford to lose. He said such outrageous bets excite him.

Last season, Swan backed Barcelona to beat PSG 6-1 after they needed to overturn the first leg result.

He also revealed his biggest winning from a bet. It was €11,500 from a long-shot treble. He had picked Spurs to win 3-2, Man United to win 3-2 and Rangers to lose 1-0 in a weekend.

The spokesman from the Paddy Power said that the punter has got his Christmas present early after betting against huge odds-on favourites and all the money was placed for the Hoops.
