In a bid to develop an 85,000 square foot accommodation for a new form of gambling for the historic racetrack, Churchill Downs Inc. plans to invest $60 million.
A form or type of betting where people use electronic gaming machines to bet on races that have already taken place is called historical or instant racing.
Churchill Downs plan to start this facility at its former Trackside site (Sports Spectrum) at Poplar Level Road.
The track is expected to open in the summer next year i.e. 2018 with the construction all scheduled to start later this year.
This facility would help generate 450 employment opportunities, with 250 construction jobs included. In order to maintain the operations and management of the facility, some 200 full-time and part-time jobs will be created.
The facility will have two quick services, walk-up food venues and a 50 seating capacity bar along with big screen televisions, reported an announcement. The facility will also boast of 600 historical racing machines and a player’s club reward centre along with an exclusive parking area.
