In an attempt to reform the sports betting law, PASPA likely to be banned

The U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee has put forward a draft called the Gaming Accountability and Modernization Enhancement Act (GAME Act) and if enacted it would abolish the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) to allow sports betting both online and in the brick-and-mortar casino setting.

Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) stated: “Despite the federal gaming laws in place today, Americans are betting up to $400 billion a year on sporting events alone”.

As of now, Nevada is the only state with traditional sports betting, where a record of $4.5 billion was put in the bet at the state’s nearly 200 sports books last year.

Previous attempts to legalise some kind of nationwide framework; for online gaming have been made by Congress. Sports betting and poker have gone in the opposite direction over the recent years in terms of popularity in Nevada. This would help the Industry to crack down the massive sports betting black market.
