The NFL is one of the biggest leagues in the world while American Football is only played in basically one country, the United States. Sure, Canada has the CFL, but it's all about the NFL when it comes to teleivison broadcasts, fame and fortune.
While Amsterdam native Geraldo Boldewijn is still far removed from these three things he has a shot at making it after the Atlanta Falcons signed him to a contract right after the completion of the 2014 NFL Draft.
The NFL draft took place, as always, at Radio City Music Hall in New York City where seven rounds of 32 names were called out over the last couple of days. Super star talents JaDeveon Clowney and Johnny Manziel were picked in the first round while Boldewijn and his former teammate at Boise State, and fellow countryman, Ricky Tjong-A-Tjoe did not hear their names get called.
All teams however look for players to sign after the completion of the draft and both Boldewijn and Tjong-A-Tjoe were in that group. While Boldewijn will be working out with the Atlanta Falcons we can see Tjong-A-Tjoe fight for a place for the San Diego Chargers.
Defensive and Special Teams players, albeit it sparesely, have played in the NFL coming from the Netherlands but Boldewijn could be the first offensive to every play a snap as the 6"4 wide receiver showed great potential during the last few years.
