The online sports betting in France increased by a significant 23% from approx. €516m to €633m for the first quarter of 2017 as compared to the previous year first quarter, setting a new record, revealed the French Gaming Regulator ARJEL. Thereby generating a rise in revenue, from 16% i.e. €82m for the first quarter of 2016 to €94m for the same duration in 2017.
Although, the number of gamblers betting online with at least one bet in the first quarter of 2017 increased by 10% to 1.5m as compared to the previous year quarter, setting yet another record for French Online Sports Betting.
It was further noted an increase in the number of male bettors by 21% to 829,000 and a sharp 40% rise in female sports bettors to 79,000.
As for the sports, betting increased in tennis, football and basketball as compared to the previous year first quarter by 41%, generating €129.5m from €91.6m, 18% (€348m) and 19% (€81.6m) respectively.
It was however seen- horse racing and online poker bets had a decline in the very time period by 1% from €247m to €246m and by 2% respectively.
