First Real Mountain Stage of Le Tour de France

The Tour de France is about to reach its first day of rest, but just before that they have the first real mountain stage to take care of. The stage goes from Mulhouse to La Planche des Belles Filles and have a total of seven categorized climbs its way to the finish line, including finishing up hill of a category one mountain.

There’s no doubt about that this is the first real stage for the yellow jersey contenders to show what they got and there will be some losing a lot of time today. Everyone is expecting Saxo-Tinkoff to make a move today to try and get Alberto Contador moved closer to Vincenzo Nibali time wise and also to show how good a shape the Spaniard is in.

At Bet365 there is no doubt that Contador is the favourite to win the stage today, giving only odds 2.25 for him as winner of the stage, while Nibali and Rodriquez gives odds 9.00. Classification outsiders with a decent chance of winning today includes Richie Porte at odds 14, Pierre Roland at odds 15 and Alejandro Valverde at odds 21.

The question today will be how the tactics will be from the different teams, as Astana was more than pleased to lose the yellow jersey yesterday. Will Saxo-Tinkoff have to go up and spend a lot of power to try and break everything apart and hope for the best or will they let other teams take charge and protect their captain? It will be interesting to see how the first mountain stage will end.
