Fantasy Sports Leagues an alternative to online sports betting

Virtually unknown a few years ago, fantasy games now represent almost one third of the US fantasy sports market which has been valued at over $1.2 billion with a 7.5% annual growth, according to IBISWorld.

Fantasy games offer a low-risk and high-reward model which is prety similar to regular fantasy sports except more frequent offering the same rush but on a weekly basis. There is now also a new audience for these games, sports bettors are looking to fantasy games leagues as an alternative to gambling on regular sports since fantasy sports contests are legal and excempt from federal internet gambling prohibitions.

According to Tom Griffiths, co-founder of FanDuel, "What we needed was a short-form fantasy sports game you could play for money. It’s instant gratification. We genuinely believe this is the next generation of fantasy sports. This could be the next billion-dollar consumer play in New York".
