ESIC Partners With Gambling Commission to Prevent Malpractice in eSports

The non-profit Esports Integrity Coalition (ESIC), in UK, has signed a memorandum of understanding, which will have a partnership with the Gambling Commission to prevent and better detect malpractice in eSports.

Ian Smith, Commissioner for the ESIC, stated: “This memorandum of understanding is a significant step for ESIC and the eSports community”.

The ESIC claimed that the information-sharing agreement would mean that the Gambling Commission would consider eSports similar to other mainstream sports such as cricket and football when they would investigate issues of suspecting integrity-related corruption.

This agreement was set up under the Gambling Act 2005, will have its own Sports Betting Intelligence Unit to identify any potential irregularities within eSports gambling.

The agreement is aimed at helping protect all the individuals, teams and companies that work hard to make eSports successful for players and fans alike. The agreement is similar to the one ESIC signed with Nevada Gaming Control Board in March. The regulators will profit from the details gathered by its members that are not licensed in the UK or Nevada but see global eSports betting activity.
