Australian PM Malcom Turnbull has confirmed this ban on all gambling related advertisements and marketing campaigns; this covers all verticals including radio, TV and Internet. Horse racing, however, will be exempt from these advertising restrictions.
This pre-watershed advertising restriction is part of Australia’s overhaul of broadcasting laws and in order to maintain reasonable relations with sports networks, who will clearly be impacted negatively, the government has put forward a trade-off that will lower the TV licensing fees being lowered.
Main stakeholders, however are highly critical of the Liberal Party and Field’s position on betting advertising as these restrictions will negatively impact the value of sports club’s commercial capabilities.
The restrictions will more than likely impact the Aussie Rules – a AUS $10 million sponsorship with CrownBet and the Rugby League-AUS $60 million tie in with Sportsbet.au.
