YouTube to block gaming related ads in Norway

YouTube seems to have agreed to block all poker related advertising in Norwegian language after the ‘Gaming and Foundation Authority’ (Norway’s gaming regulator) filed a complaint with the site.

In Norway, poker is very restricted and highly regulated and only two companies, Norsk Tipping and Norsk Rikstoto, hold the monopoly and can offer gambling services and products to consumers. Online poker is not allowed as is advertising for it.

Yet still there are ads for online poker and even for online gambling since the law itself is not easily defined and advertisers have made use of freedom of speech arguments in order to get their messages out in public. According to a report by the ‘Gaming and Foundation Authority’, the only viable solution is total legal reform.
