On Monday, Antanas Guoga (aka Tony G) posted some interesting news on his facebook page announcing he would run in the EU Parliament elections next year as a candidate for the Lithuanian Liberal Party. Tony G’s aim with this decision is, in his words, to “change Lithuania”.

In the last elections, Lithuania’s Liberal Party earned one seat in the EU Parliament and they are aiming to earn twice that number on the next election date on May 2014. Tony G’s involvement in politics and public life in Lithuania spans across several projects to generate jobs in the country. It was these efforts which earned him the Lithuanian Business Lighthouse Award in 2012. He was also chosen as the Lithuanian who most promoted his country in a positive light.

If elected, Tony G could be spending far less time playing poker both online as in live events. However, the poker pro commented he would remain commited to playing online poker and attending as many events as possible.
