Sunday Funday Tournament Roundup 28 October 2013

Finnish “kongolainen” takes home the Million’s big share, total prize pools down for the first time since WCOOP & the WSOP.com Online Championships kick off

While the big tournaments we’re used to trended down outside of the Sunday Million, a new tournament series hit the block.  Offering a virtual crown to its players from the USA, WSOP.com kicked off its first ever Online Championships.  It’s a nine event series, and while it won’t get anywhere near our typical Sunday Funday top totals, we thought we’d give them a tip of the hat here for starting off and hope that the $215 buy-in $75k Added NLH Main Event set for November 2nd grows into something bigger and bigger annually and shows up on the charts next week.

Sunday tournaments bestowed 5 six figure wins on the leading winners, some sizable chops and a bit of the old usual on our valiant keyboard cowboys and cowgirls.  Let’s see how they all rolled out, top to bottom.

Sunday Million ($1,000,000 GTD) – PokerStars
Buy in:  $200+15     Entrants:  7,499  Prize Pool: $1,499,800

Even without the big “800 Million” tournament on offer like last weekend, the Sunday Million managed to post bigger numbers again.  Not much, but 35 extra runners added $7,000 to the prize pool leaving it just $200 shy of $1.5 million.  (A number I hope to see us break next week.)  In the end, “kongolainen” from Finland took home the title and the biggest cash prize in a 4 way chop.  It was a “stealth” final table, with no big names at it, but you can be sure Matt “ADZ124” Marafioti thought he was going to take it down, right until he busted in 89th place for $1,694.

Sunday Warm-Up ($500,000 GTD) – PokerStars
Buy in:  $200+15  Entrants: 3,278  Prize Pool:  $655,600

For the second week in a row, the Warm-Up was down.  While it was down a miniscule 5 last week, 232 runners opted out of “full pads practice” this week, leaving a gaping $46,600 hole in the prize pool.  Still, “H.Oussalé” was able to take it down in an all out win and grab our second six figure score of the day for $102,930.  Also at the final table was Emil “Emilohlsson” Ohlsson (aka – my job would be easier if EVERYONE used an online alias like this) who finished in 7th and Niall “Firaldo87” Farrell who made the last two tables but finished in 16th ($1,966.)  Here is how the payouts laid out.

Sunday 500 ($300,000 GTD) – PokerStars
Buy in: $500+30 Entrants:  765 Prize Pool: $382,500

After a rise again last week, P’Star’s big buy-in Sunday Major fell off a tad this week.  With 36 less runners showing up, $18,000 was dropped out of the prize pool in comparison, but the total still allowed “mr.thome”, “Dr.Eldoradon” and Mike “goleafsgo41” Leah to make a deal three handed that saw “mr.thome” take home the biggest chunk of money and the title.  Impressive takedown, considering Leah’s record when heading into online final tables.  Also making deep runs were Peter "twirlpro" Turmezey (14th - $3,251), Jakob "mendieta19" Carlsson (20th - $1,759) and with his second deep run of the week, Emil "Emilohlsson" Ohlsson  finished 26th ($1,759) but, was in striking range of a double-major-final-table Funday.

$109 Sunday Rebuy ($225,000 GTD) – PokerStars
Buy in: $100+9 (RB) Entries:  965 Prize Pool:  $297,500

The Sunday Rebuy caught a bit of a cold without the “800 Million” blanket to keep it warm.  Down 88 entries, the rebuy lost $8800 week over week, but still put up a prizepool of just under $300,000.  In the end, Aditya “Intervention” Agarwal took home the title in a two way deal, but lost out on the money side where “tasos80” took home the lion’s share of $49,000.  George "gkap13" Kapalas (14th - $2,528) and Jeremiah "Believer82" Vinsant (15th - $2,582) both made deep runs, but could not get past the final two tables.  Here is how the rest of the final table paid out:

Sunday Supersonic ($125,000 GTD)
Buy in: $210.80+4.20  Entrants: 1,361  Prize Pool: $286,898

The Sunday Supersonic shot past the 2nd chance this week, pulling in a fat field of turbo hungry runners and putting up a $286,898 prize pool.  There would be a chop heads-up and “talonaquiles” would win the lion’s share and the title from “Bjarki_65” in the bjargin.  Marc-Andre “FrenchDawg” Ladouceur would finish in 8th as the only big name at the final table.  However, Cory "UGOTPZD" Carroll would stone bubble (10th - $2,725), while Dylan "Pokerl)evil" Hortin (11th - $2,725) made a second deep-major-day run and  Ignat “0Human0” Liviu brought up the rear in 17th ($1,577.)

Sunday 2nd Chance – Poker Stars
Buy in:  $200+15  Entrants: 1,412  Prize Pool:  $282,400

Over 1400 runners showed up for a second chance this week, creating a sizable $282,400 prize pool.  In the end it would be the infamous Rhys “floppinhel” Jones who would take home the title and the biggest part of a heads of deal against “chrispker23.”  They must have been running good as they took down strategist/teacher extraordinaire Aaron “aejones” Jones in 9th and exorcized WCOOP monster Dylan “Pokerl)evil” Hortin in 18th ($1,355.)

$250,000 Guarantee – FullTilt Poker
Buy in: $200+15 Entrants: 1,382  Prize Pool:  $276,400

Downward trends continued on FTP as well, but not to worry, it’s just a little “hitch in the giddyup” this week as 45 fewer entries were rounded up, corralling $9,000 less than last week.  Still, with over $275k in the prize pool, it was worth slapping leather for.  When the smoke cleared from the gun battle, “ALEE24” stood victorious over well known digital gunslingers Vojtech “Vojta_R” Ruzaicka and Jeremy “daisyxoxo” Fitzpatrick.   Ultimately culled from the final table herd but still going deep were Nick "Rounder63" Carrillo (10th - $2,764), Calvin "Cal42688" Anderson (11th - $1,764), Francis "The Lab Rat" Anderson (13th - $2,045) and Nick "FU_15" Maimone (25th - $1,105.)

Sunday Brawl ($200,000 GTD) – FullTilt Poker
Buy in:  $240+15 Entries:  1,159 Prize Pool:  $231,800

Biggest fall off of the week goes to the (typically) very popular Sunday Brawl.  While 268 fewer runners showing up this week (and $64,320 was missed from the prize pool) versus last week, there was still plenty of action.  In the end it was “MUFAZZA” (oooh, say it again!) who took down the first prize straight out over the field and took home the $46,300 prize.  We weren’t short any big competitors, but we did fail to see them at the final table.  Kevin "Wu_Wizard" MacPhee busted in 21st  ($996) and Jim "Mr_BigQueso" Collopy followed not far behind (23rd - $996.)

$200,000 GTD Sunday – PartyPoker
Buy in: $200+15 Entries:  1,169  Prize Pool:  $233,800

Bringing up the rear again this week (in prize pool total terms) and also experiencing a slide was the PartyPoker big guarantee.  Down 55 runners over last week (maybe they were participating in a sit-in) the prize pool came in under $225k for the first time in a while.  Still, there was money to be made and “eugencoop771” wanted as much of it as he could carry, winning the $43,446 first prize straight out over award-worthy-aliased “Spewtardish” to wrap up this week’s list of big Sunday Funday Tournaments.
