Phelps Tries His Hand at Poker at the 48th Annual WSOP

The 48th Annual World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, Nevada saw the most celebrated Olympian, Michael Phelps. The 31-year-old after his retiring from the Olympics after stealing the limelight last year in 2016, continues to steal the show.

Phelps teamed up with professional players Joe Cada, Ryan Riess and Jeff Gross to try his hand at poker. For the 2nd event of the series for the $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em tournament, poker starts Antonia Esfandiari and Brian Rast, were also the part of the GOAT’s squad.

Phelps had planned of donating any winnings to his Michael Phelps Foundation; sadly his tag team couldn’t pass through day 1.

Phelps has a long reported history of gambling. Gambling is considered one of his leading problems that lead to his 2014 DIU arrest. He reportedly spent 8 hours in a gambling binge at a casino before setting out.

This year was different as Phelps came to gambling for good, joining his hands with the 2006 World Series of Poker champion Jamie Gold to co-host a celebrity poker after-party charity fundraiser at the 8th Annual ‘Big Game Big Give’.
