Ohio Lawmakers Warned ofthe Consequences of Allowing Video Poker in Racinos

By adding video poker, the state estimates that funds generated would reach $12.5 million a year.  These profits go to fund education in Ohio. But casino officials are up in arms believing that the consequences on the state’s four casinos would be far higher.

Ohio approved this addition to raise further funds to the state budget and provide more funding to education.  To become law, the measure will have to be approved by the state’s governor, who reportedly does not support the expansion approved by the house.

JACK Entertainment has vociferously opposed the expansion of casino gaming to racinos and believes that it would result in roughly $30 million lost in annual revenues in the four casinos in Ohio. The company believes that any perceived gains from lottery revenue will be more than offset by the subsequent decreases in revenue from casinos.
