NHL and NBA team sign sponsorship deal with PartyPoker

Two major teams in the USA, the Philadelphia 76ers of the NBA and the New Jersey Devils of the NHL are now the first American professional teams to sign a sponsorship deal with an online poker company.

Chief executive officer for both teams, Scott O'Neill, and bwin-party digital entertainment CEO, Norbert Teufelberg, have confirmed an agreement for multiple years during a news conference at the Prudential Center to formally announce the deal.

O’Neil said "We are proud to welcome partypoker to our family as we embark on an exciting journey with an innovative, global leader in the digital marketplace. As an organization, we will continue to align with brands that aspire to grow with us, in true partnership".

As for Teufelberg, he stated "They are two of the most iconic names in American hockey and basketball with huge and loyal fan bases throughout New Jersey and the surrounding metropolitan areas. There is an affinity between playing in online poker tournaments and sports – winning is about having intense focus, stamina and a great competitive spirit".

It seems neither the NBA nor the NHL had any issues with either team being sponsored by an online poker company.
