Daniel Negreanu, the Canadian poker pro, was named the world’s best poker player for the decade spanning from 2000 to 2010. The Global Poker Index, an independent poker related ranking website, granted the title to Negreanu after winning a series of major poker events on his way to earning the ‘player of the year’ title. Negreanu, now 39 years old, has earned lifetime winnings of almost $20 million from live poker tournaments.

In a statement, the honoured poker pro stated, “I’m very honoured by this award. I’ve worked hard on my game throughout the decade, so that I could find ways to consistently win year in, year out against tougher and tougher competition each year. I’ve never wanted to rest on my name alone and winning has always been important to me. The game has changed a lot over the past 10 years, but the key ingredient for success hasn’t: confidence. I enter the next decade more confident than ever before”.
