Massachusetts Wants to Give Online Poker a Try

Massachusetts state lottery officials have requested  from their lawmakers to allow them to pass regulations to enable the state lottery organization to have a trial on onlin poker and online gambling and at the same time to be able to withhold payments from those player and customers who are suspected of being involved in ticket scofflaws.

According to a statement by lottery assistance executive director, Beth Bresnahan, during a hearing at the Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure, "We are not proposing to offer these games to our players with an actual cash transaction, nor are we seeking any appropriation to fund such operations. Rather in the interests of preserving and protecting the Lottery, we simply want to ensure that we have a solid understanding of the technology and logistics of online gaming should this market space become more competitive. Existing law does not permit us to conduct such experimentation".

These current laws refer to Massachusetts laws which prohibit online gaming even if there is no real money involved, and the goal of the organization would be to hold trials with onine poker and gambling platforms to build an infrastructure which supports online gaming within the state.
