J.C. Tran is well known for being a solid live tournament poker player, having won everything from WSOP events as well as other major tournaments across the states and the globe. Now he won yet another title in his "home field", as he won the World Poker Tour Rolling Thunder in Sacramento California.
The win was his second WPT victory to date, beating more than 465 players to be the one to raise the trophy. Tran had a hard final table full of experienced tournament players and ended up being heads up against Preston Harwell. Despite Harwell having a chiplead over Tran, Tran accumulated lots of chips from Harwell easily and eventually they ended all-in.
The blinds are 75K/150k and Ante is 25K. Harwell is first to act and raises all-in for his last 1,125,000 chips with , getting a call from Tran with
. The board comes out
and with Tran hitting a pair and Harwell not, the tournament was over.
Besides the honour and a nice trophy, Tran won $302,750 as well as a $15,400 seat to the World Poker Tour National Championship which is being played in May. Hopefully Tran will have time to play the event, as he recently said that he would take a break from the game to try and spend more time with his family.
