Hurricane Irma To Affect The Poker Industry In Florida

The poker rooms across the state, especially to the south of Florida are likely to shut down until the storm passes away. According to the National Hurricane Centre, about a dozen card rooms are expecting the hurricane by the early Sunday morning in the Miami and Fort Lauderdale area.

With the arrival of Hurricane Irma to the eastern coast, loss of life and property is expected. Hurricane Irma would bring destruction and loss of life as the category five hurricane closes to Florida it is expected to bring with itself destructions and loss of life, however economic losses cannot be ignored.

Bringing with itself would be a reported loss to the poker and overall gaming industry. In addition to poker rooms, Racinos would most likely suspend live racing.

Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood declared on its website on Wednesday that they have cancelled the poker tournaments and its Big Game Full House Drawing promotion will close starting Thursday at 11 a.m. other cash games would be suspended starting on Friday.

Hialeah Park Casino near Miami has cancelled its regular Monday tournament and will close its poker room from Friday.

According to the World Poker Tour’s website, the WPTDeepStacks stop at the Seminole Hotel in Immokalee has been cancelled, because of public safety. The event was slated to run until September 10.
