Already a cool $38,020 richer, you could say Japan-native Takumi Samejima’s 2017 is off to a good start.
After dominating the New Year Asia Poker Tour (APT), an event held among star poker players, Samejima also laid claim to the coveted APT championship ring and trophy. ATP 2017 is Samejima’s third live appearance, and first-ever poker championship win. A good start to the New Year, indeed.
According to organizers, Samejima held his lead for the duration of the event. By the final hand of the Final 8 showdown, Samejima had earned himself a swift step past all-pro Filipino, Czardy Rivera. Left in second place, Rivera claimed $23,210 in winnings, while Englishman Samad Razavi took home third-place winnings of $16,790.
Players bought in at $1,650 for entry into a five day Main Event which held a cash-winnings pool of $139,680.
Organized in the tourist center of Pasay City, Philippines, ATP 2017 was directed exclusively by Resorts World Manila-operated Travellers International Hotel Group. Since its 2008 inception, ATP has been held in 7 locations in 7 countries worldwide. The next ATP event of 2017 will be held from March 22 to 30, at the Hotel Inter-Burgo Casino, in Daegu, South Korea.
