Google Chromecast Bans Online Poker

Share

Google Chromecast is a service that allows its users to stream content and video from any Android powered device to large screens or devices like televisions. Users will be able to stream all kind kinds of content except poker and pornographic material.

The terms and conditions outlined in the Google Cast SDK have been recently made public and one specific clause is of interest to poker players using the service. Clause 4 says that all Chromecast app developers have to comply with the content policies outlined under the Google Play Developer Program Policies which state, “We don’t allow content or services that facilitate online gambling, including but not limited to, online casinos, sports betting and lotteries, or games of skill that offer prizes of cash or other value”. That includes poker.

The interesting aspect of this is that Google has specifically made an effort to define and ban real money games of skill, which include poker. Should a developer ignore the T&C then they will have their app blocked. The only way around for poker players is to stream the browser of your Android device instead and play poker that way.
