Felony Charges Dropped Against Online Gambling Billionaire Calvin Ayre By The U.S Government

The Canadian online gambling entrepreneur and founder of the Bodog brand, Calvin Ayre has been freed from the federal felony charges he was facing in the United States. As per Forbes reports Ayre has admitted over the phone from Vancouver to a misdemeanor charge of being an accessory after the fact in a Baltimore federal court case. All the felony charges against Ayre and his site Bodog were dropped in exchange to this.

Ayre has been sentenced to 1 year of unsupervised probation and $500,000 fine from Judge Catherine Blake. He further agreed to make no claims for the $66 million that was seized from payment processors by the federal prosecutors. Ayre has reacquired his site Bodog.com in exchange of $100,000.

In 2012 a federal grand jury indicted Ayre on charges of conducting an illegal gambling business and laundering money business between June 2006 and January 2012. Ayre maintained throughout that he was innocent. He was facing $1 million in fines and up to 25 years in jail.

Calvin is happy with the decision and relieved from the case that was five years old. He is currently in Antigua and now holds the citizenship of Antigua and plans to stay there.
