Everest Poker Pulling Out of the Russian Market

Russian poker players are going to find it harder and harder to find a bigger site to play poker on, as yet another site has chosen to withdraw from the Russian market. This time it is Everest Poker, part of the Betclic-Everest Group, who told to Pokerfuse.com that they are withdrawing from the Russian market, but didn’t specify any reason for doing so.

Everest Poker is currently in the iPoker2 pool along with many large British sports betting companies, many of which are either blacklisted by Russia or who has chosen to pull out of Russia voluntarily. Russia is currently blocking access to many online poker sites and we expect them to continue doing so in the future.

Pokerstars is among the sites that has been blocked from Russia, which means that players cannot access their website, but they can still login to the poker client. Following this sites like Betfair has decided to voluntarily leave the Russian market, in order to avoid any potential bad standing with them.

We will await an official statement from Everest Poker regarding their withdrawal of the Russian market and it will be interesting to see exactly why they have decided to leave the market. Some speculate that this might be the end of the Russian iGaming market and therefore the sites are leaving already and some speculate they might regulate it and thus the sites leave to avoid any problems with a future license application.
