Pokerstars announced today that the European Poker Tour (EPT) will be going to the small Mediterranean country of Malta for the very first time in its history. The EPT will be arriving in Malta on March 18th, where the poker festival will continue for 11 days before ending on March 28th as part of the season 11 schedule.
The Malta Poker Festival has joined forces with the Italian Poker Tour (IPT) to create the best possible schedule and will take place in the beautiful Portomaso Casino in St. Julians. The poker festival will have a massive 40-45 events including a €5,300 EPT Main Event and a €1,100 IPT Main Event, with cash games running around the clock. Malta is the 22nd destination since the birth of the EPT.
“After discussions with players and fellow colleagues, we decided it was time to add a fresh and exciting stop to the EPT schedule. Malta is a great destination for an EPT and we expect strong participation numbers. With excellent connections to all major European cities, a warm Mediterranean climate, delicious local cuisine and lots of great tourist activities, Malta is the perfect place for players to come with their friends and family next spring.” Edgar Stuchly, President of the EPT said in a press release.
Malta was a logical place for the EPT to go next, as the island is well known for hosting hundreds of online poker sites, which has attracted the biggest portion of iGaming employees as well as professional poker players. Furthermore it is the home of Pokerstars.eu, who has their offices in the beautiful city of Sliema.
“Malta is where PokerStars.eu is based, so we are very happy to bring the EPT home to what is the perfect combination of a 24/7 poker offering, as well as the chance to escape the grind and discover everything that Malta has to offer.” General Manager of Pokerstars in Malta, Michael Holmberg commented.
Eros Ganzina, General Manager of Portomaso Casino, said: “We are delighted and proud to announce our new collaboration with PokerStars and the EPT. Malta is renowned as being a very popular poker destination and in the last five years Portomaso Casino has proved to be more than capable of hosting large-scale events. The EPT is a landmark event for us and we are looking forward to hosting such a prestigious tournament. We are positive that poker players will enjoy the new destination.”
The 14th edition of the Global Poker Index European Poker Awards will also be taking place during EPT Malta, more specifically on March 25th.
“Malta has been the hub for online gaming and poker for the last ten years. EPT Malta is a great platform to organise the GPI European Poker Awards and to make it really successful by connecting players and industry stakeholders in such a great place.” Alex Dreyfus, CEO of the Global Poker Index, commented.
Players can qualify for EPT Malta through online satellites on Pokerstars.com and all of its regulated sites.
