CA online poker market worth up to 384M

According to a study conducted by Academicon and PokerScout, should California legalize and regulate online poker, then its own market could generate revenues up to $263 million during the first year and up to $384 million within ten years of operation.

The data analyzed comes from 4.6 million real money online poker players between the years 2009 and 2010, during the golden years of unregulated online poker in the United States. From that data, they learned that 178,300 California online poker players had generated average $867 per year in revenues for the online poker operators. This translates to a $155 million market which is roughly 15% of the entire US revenue for online poker.

California is considered to be the United States' largest market with potential of being completely autonomous, however one of the study's authors, Dr. Ingo Fiedler, said "The size of the market depends strongly on the decision to either limit the player pool to in-state residents or participate in a federal or international network of players."
