Amanda Gillard has emerged as the winner of 2017 WSOP Sydney Circuit Ladies Event. The event attracted 117 female poker players from around the world. Gillard takes home $10,354 as the winnings from the $330 event.

The 2017 WSOP Sydney Ladies Event, with a $35,100 prize pool, involved some of the notable names in female poker club, including Suzy Khoueis, Hannah Lee, Amanda Wong, Jen Bernard, Mele Poulivaati, Fidan Shevket, Ashleigh Tran, Michelle Psarras, Erolyn Strang, Jane Howard and Despina Yiannikoulias.

The presence of Khoueis, the last year’s champion of the event, garnered attention as she also had the 2017 Star Poker Festival Ladies Event and the 2017 Sydney Champs event under her belt. Including Khoueis, most of the notable players, found it difficult to get going.

Considering the starting stack was 10,000, Gillard was smart enough to know she had tough clash ahead. An hour into final day’s play, she was down to just 2,900 chips but stayed focused and gained the chip lead.

On winning, Gillard expressed in delight, “This is what I came here for! This place is amazing; it is a great place to play poker. I will surely be back here when the Star Poker Festival is on next year to represent my APL Outer West team!”

Leanne Haas, Quin Jian, Evelyn Ruiz and Queenie Kim finished next, in that order, taking $6,508, $4,633, $3,366 and $2,493, respectively.

Meanwhile, Johan Lees has won 2017 WSOP Sydney Opening Event for $105,416. The Star Poker Room of the opening event lived up to the promise of a bigger and better 2017, attracting a record field of 1,357 players to its opening World Series of Poker Circuit event. The 2017 WSOP Sydney series is a 13-event series.

The 2017 WSOP Sydney Circuit has just started with plenty of events scheduled daily through December 18, 2017.
