San Jose Earthquakes Will Accept Bitcoin Payments in Stadium

Good news for those who loves cryptocurrencies and the San Jose Earthquakes, as the team has just announced that they will begin to accept Bitcoin as a payment method in the near future. The deal means that it will be possible for fans to leave their wallets at home and instead pay directly from their mobile Bitcoin wallet.

Bitcoin purchases will be available for game tickets, shirts, merchandise and at food merchants. The payment processing in the Buck Shaw stadium in Santa Clara will be handled by San Francisco based Coinbase, which is well known for their great online Bitcoin exchange site.

“In the spirit of Silicon Valley, the Earthquakes are constantly looking for ways to innovate,” San Jose Earthquakes Club President, Dave Kaval said in a press release. The team however is not the first team to accept Bitcoin payments, as the Sacramento Kings decided to that back in March and has had some modest success with it.

Now it will be interesting to see if anyone will be using Bitcoins to pay when visiting the stadium and to see if more teams will follow in their footsteps. One thing is for sure and that is that the more well known brands and teams that accepts cryptocurrency payments, the more popular it will become.
