Is crypto going mainstream or mainstream going crypto?

Users of Google Finance are now able to get a quick glance on the top performing cryptocurrency prices on finance.google.com. A new section, called “Crypto,” is now appearing in the “Compare Markets” category alongside conventional stock and currency markets. Key pricing information for top performing cryptocurrencies Is now displayed. These include Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH).

It might seem remarkable as YouTube, also owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet, has in the past years consistently displeased crypto users by banning educational and news content from its platforms. Cointelegraph was banned for no reason in 2020, while more recently CoinDesk’s YouTube channel had suddenly been suspended. However a few days later Coindesk got reinstated after the platform confirmed they were not in violation of their terms of service.

The cryptocurrency market has attracted mainstream attention over the past year. Bitcoin has surged to new heights this year, propelled primarily by institutional adoption of the asset. While the previous bull market of 2017 was primarily driven by retail investors, this time it is big corporate players playing ball.  The involvement of Tesla, MicroStrategy, Mastercard and Square have helped increased momentum. With a current combined valued of over $1.4 trillion, the cryptocurrency asset class is one that cannot be disregarded, by anyone.
