Dish Network Corporation just announced that they will begin to accept Bitcoins from September this year, making them by far the largest company that says it is going to integrate the cryptocurrency as a payment method.
Dish Network Corp. is one of the leading satellite TV company in the US and will begin to accept Bitcoin payments in cooperation with San Francisco based Coinbase. Coinbase will convert all Bitcoin payments into cash instantly upon receiving the payment, eliminating any risk of volatility for Dish Network Corp.
The COO of Dish Network Corp, Bernie Han, said to ABC News that the idea came from his staff, as many of his employees had started to use the cryptocurrency and he found it interesting as a concept and payment method.
Han is not sure how big the demand for paying for their services with Bitcoins is, but it fits perfectly with their strategy to try and reach more tech savvy customers for their products such as live TV streaming on mobile devices. He also noted that the processing fees with Bitcoin is way more attractive than those found with the payment methods they currently accepts.
